Job Description

Duty of Mechanical Technician Trainee SMP 4151 at SAMREF is to carry out required mechanical maintenance activities during regular maintenance, unit shutdown & turnarounds in the refinery and other associated facilities in a safe, productive and efficient manner as per Samref Procedures and work instructions. This includes repair work activities such as pipe fitting, tube bending, rigging, Exchanger work, flame cutting, fabrication, vessel internal work, hot tapping and welding in addition to supporting callouts, emergencies, shutdowns and/or projects as required.  Also, to assist his colleagues in complex repairs and PM practices on stationary equipment.

REGULAR ASSIGNED DUTIES:

Safety

  • Get familiarized and ensure compliance with Samref Personal SHE/OIMS policies and procedures and comply with required general and specialized (e.g. Alky suits, etc.) personal protective equipment.
  • Use Job start discussion (JSDs) and continuous assessment of risks elimination (CARE) to ensure the job is fully understood and can be executed safely in accordance to SHE, OIMS and T1BP policies and procedures and maintain good housekeeping at work site and ensure workshop tidiness.
  • Conduct and submit regular Behavior Based safety observations (BBSO) and report near misses according to Samref SHE procedures.
  • Attend weekly safety meetings and commit to draw and adhere to the lesson learned during job executions.
  • Promote and encourage commitment toward safety practices compliance among colleagues from SHE/OIMS perspective.

Maintenance Job Execution

  • Interpret blue prints and schematics, static equipment & QAQC Manuals, P&IDs, equipment drawings etc.  as related to refinery fixed equipment in job executions.
  • Obtain measurements using all types of measuring tools. Draw and/or layout screwed and welded piping for shop and/or field fabrication.
  • Rig light loads, including pipe & valves. Rig piping to facilitate installation of blinds & gaskets.
  • Perform all repair work for vessels and drums, arrest leaks from flanges, replace packings, opening of manways including checking of internal attachments. Cleaning/rectification of strainers, dropping and fitting of control valves, safety & pressure relief valves.
  • Perform all pipe fitting work including: blinding, opening and closing man-ways, installing and removing pipe spools and valves, re-packing valves, performing hot taps. Perform piping & fabrication work and do the required tack welds. Use all types of cutting equipment such as air arc, disc grinder and cold cutting equipment. Performs valve testing
  • Strip heat exchangers, pull and re-install tube bundles. Conduct hydrostatic tests on exchangers including setting up test equipment.
  • Clean job site after work completion to maintain a neat and orderly working area.
  • Maintains port area greasing wire ropes, pulleys of loading arms and sleeves, connecting/disconnecting of process line valves
  • Complete mechanical activities per Group Leader’s direction and according to the  daily scheduled plan and keep group leader informed of status, progress, problems and related concerns

Emergencies, Shutdowns & Schedule Break-in Response

  • Timely respond to all emergency calls during off shift hours to perform static equipment maintenance work and report and record the worked hours and job executed in the log.
  • Accept and timely respond to MCL approved priority one schedule break-in activities.
  • Accept and respond to be in shift coverage during emergencies and/or shutdowns
  • Accept and respond to be in callout schedule and timely respond to refinery call-ins
  • Supports for major projects, TSR, MOCs, and/or MEIs
  • Support MOC, MEIs and/or TSRs factory acceptance testing, execution, commissioning and/or startup.
  • Carry out other project work as and when required based on management direction.
  • As required, assist group leader and senior technicians in participating to refinery projects teams and provide maintenance input and comments toward new designs site experience, maintainability, consistency, spares interchangeability, witnessing factory acceptance testing, etc.
  •  Support project execution in performing static equipment functional testing, commissioning and startup.
  • Assist group leader and senior technicians to ensure all projects’ as-built documents required for maintenance are handed over to the concerned.

Job Reporting and Documentation

  • Records repair and/or, defective parts and components used, and inventory of parts on hand including completion of applicable quality documentation in either written or electronic form.
  • Maintain and update static equipment documentation of all types for future reference.
  • Perform and properly record SCD PM and in accordance to OIMS 6.3 requirement (e.g. range, as found, as left, etc.)
  • Assist the Group Leader/Senior Technician in finalizing SAP time ticket confirmations and to prepare the required time reports. Maintain the record of work performed. Provide job planning input to the Coordinator/Group Leader as requested.
  • Assist the Group Leader in arranging materials & tools for major job commitments and in providing information to revise drawings and technical documents as deemed necessary

Training and Development

  • Ensure to attend all the required SHE&OIMS and technical training required for GAP closure and any other training deemed necessary by maintenance management onsite, in kingdom and/or out of kingdom.
  • Assist Group Leader and senior technicians in development and mentoring of Saudi national Trainees, coop students and apprentice.

Others

  • Assist group leader and senior technicians to support incident investigations and/or implementation of recommended action items associated with static equipment.
  • Perform any and all job related duties deemed necessary by the Maintenance Management to accomplish the safe, successful and reliable operation of the refinery.

 

Education:

Diploma or Associate Degree in Mechanical Technology

Fresh with Less than 2 years
