Job Description

Instrument Technician Trainee at SAMREF is accountable for refinery and associated facilities Process and equipment instrumentation maintenance. This includes installation, repair, PM, testing, calibration, loop checks, function checks, fault diagnostics, in addition to supporting callouts, emergencies, shutdowns and/or projects as required.

REGULAR ASSIGNED DUTIES:

Safety & Quality

  • Comply with Samref related SHE, OIMS and T1BP policies and procedure and safety critical rules.
  • Effectively use Samref SHE tools JSA, JSD, CARE, safety leadership meetings, learnings from SAI and Near Miss reporting. Promote and encourage commitment toward safety practices compliance among colleagues
  • Perform Instrument work in accordance with industry and site practice, equipment strategies and/or TQMs work instruction in a quality manner that meets their intent in improving equipment availability, mitigate risks scenarios and enable continuous safe and reliable refinery operations.
  • Perform and properly record PMs and proof testing in accordance to OIMS and equipment strategy requirement (e.g. range, setting, as found, as left, etc.)
  • Ensure that the proper and correct job tools, equipment, safety gear and required materials are available based on the job requirements.
  • Maintain good work site housekeeping prior to leaving the site.
  • Maintain & ensure workshop tidy and clean.
  • Properly label defective and or removed equipment/parts from system (e.g. location removed from, date removed, why removed, what to do with it (e.g. discard, PM, repair, send for vendor R&R, etc.)

Jobs Execution

  • Carry out instruments PMs and SCD instruments proof testing ( transmitters,  SOVs, XV valves, etc).
  • With sr. tech assistance for complex activities, carry out annual fired heaters, muffle furnace, incinerators and boilers instruments/burner management system PM and proof testing
  • Carry out regular pumps auto star/trip interlock PM and proof testing.
  • Carry out quarterly CRUDE, CHD & BS HIPPS PM and proof testing
  • Perform critical turbomachinery PM & hydraulic trip SOVs proof testing, repairs, and Protech 203&TPS overspeed trip system reset.
  • Conduct PM, repairs, diagnostics, and Bently Nevada 3500 vibration system configuration.
  • Repair and calibrate various refinery level instruments including steam drum hydrastep gauge.
  • Perform PM/calibration, testing, and repairs of refinery process flow instruments (e.g., Rotameters).
  • Service custody transfer flowmeters (e.g., Turbine, Coriolis) and support certification field activities.
  • Repair and PM custody transfer OMNI flow computers with assistance for complex tasks.
  • Perform PM/calibration, testing, repairs of SAAB and Enraf custody transfer level gauging systems.
  • Carry out repairs and PM of all type of temperature elements in the refinery (e.g. RTDs, Thermocouples, etc.)
  • Carry out of repairs, PM and calibration of all types of Emerson instruments in the refinery (e.g. Flow, level, temperature, pressure), electronic, smart, and/or foxboro pneumatic types.
  • Repair Hino relay-based safety instrumented systems and troubleshoot issues.
  • Service fired heaters, furnace flame rods, and SRU Optical Pyrometer for incinerators.
  • Perform complex tasks with senior tech assistance on process instruments, control valves, and interlocks.
  • Use conventional and software tools for diagnostics and repairs, utilizing instrument program screens for troubleshooting.
  • Use certified/calibrated test equipment (e.g. signal generators, oscilloscopes, ammeters, voltmeters, etc.) for instrument testing, calibration and diagnostics.
  • Remove defective equipment from system, decontaminate, disassemble, clean, and replace
  • defective parts, using hand tools, replace defective wiring and tubing and reassemble as required.
  • Under the guidance of the group leader, use critical attributes (collaboration, team work, etc.) to diagnose and rectify root causes of multi-disciplinary and/or specialized equipment failures.
  • Complete your assigned activities per daily schedule and according to group leader’s directions and keep him informed of status, progress, problems and related concerns

Callouts, Emergencies, Shutdowns & Schedule Break-in  Response

  • Timely respond to all emergency calls during off shift hours to perform instrumentation maintenance work and report and record the worked hours and job executed in the log.
  • Accept and timely respond to MCL approved priority one schedule break-in activities.
  • Accept and respond to be in shift coverage during emergencies and/or shutdowns

MOCs, TSRs and/or Major Expense Items Execution and commissioning support

  • Support MOC, MEIs and/or TSRs execution and commissioning.
  • Carry out other project work as and when required based on management direction.
  • As required, participate and provide input to refinery projects and communicate maintenance inputs toward new designs site experience, maintainability, consistency, spares interchangeability, etc.
  • Support project factory and site testing, execution, loop checks and functional testing, commissioning and startup
  • Ensure all projects’ as- built documents required for maintenance are handed over to the concerned.

Job Reporting and Documentation

  • Assist group leader to keep well organized and up to date as- built documentations that enable fast response to emergencies and/or equipment failures (e.g. maintenance manuals, ILDs, data sheets,  schematics and/or wiring diagrams, etc.) and keep them ready for use when needed.
  • Propose updates to TQMS work instructions based on lesson learned from execution in the field.
  • Keep instrument related software, licenses, backups and laptops up to date and in secure place.
  • Redline schematic drawings, sketches, and/or reports to reflect approved changes or alterations made in instrument equipment and/or systems and submit to drafting for as- built documentation.
  • Provide job planning input to the Coordinator/GL as requested.

Training and Development

  • Ensure to attend all the required SHE&OIMS and technical training required for GAP closure and any other training deemed necessary by maintenance management onsite, in kingdom and/or out of kingdom.
  • Assist group leader and senior technician in development and mentoring of Trainees, coop students and apprentice.

Others

  • Perform any and all job related duties deemed necessary by the Maintenance Management to accomplish the safe, successful and reliable operation of the refinery.

Education:

Diploma or Associate degree in Electronics or Instrumentation Technology

Experience:

Fresh with Less than 2 years
