Applications are invited for Faculty Position in Environmental Analytical Chemistry at KAUST. As part of a major initiative to strengthen its research in environmental science and engineering, the Environmental Science and Engineering (EnSE) Program in the Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering (BESE) Division at KAUST is seeking to expand research in the field of environmental/analytical chemistry. The EnSE program has established research strength in several areas to address the challenges of the 21st century.  We educate and train students to work on many of the world’s most pressing challenges related to sustainability and the environment, focusing on the intersection of water, energy and food nexus, and sustainable processes.

The Middle East is experiencing rapid population and economic growth, along with demand for water resources. Depleting water resources challenge the water-scarce region. It’s crucial to tap into non-conventional sources for sustainable growth. We seek applicants for a faculty position (Open Rank). Ideal candidates will develop methods to identify and quantify emerging chemical contaminants. They’ll also study their environmental impact on health and biodiversity

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with strong analytical chemistry background to study emerging contaminants and their by-products in natural, engineered, or biological samples. The potential hire is expected to develop vigorous research programs that span across the fields of chemistry, chemical biology, and environmental science.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field, as well as a strong publication record in the top-tier journals of their respective fields. We expect the successful candidate to spearhead top-tier research supporting EnSE program’s mission for sustainability in water, energy, food, cities, infrastructure, and the environment. We encourage the candidate to form interdisciplinary collaborations within the BESE Division and across KAUST’s Divisions and Initiatives. Education responsibilities include teaching approximately two courses per academic year at the graduate level and student mentorship and supervision.The successful candidate should also contribute professional service at the Program, Division, and University levels.
