Role – Shift Leader, Pre-Production
You will lead the pre-production shift: organizing work for operators, ensuring sample runs / prototypes meet design and quality standards, coordinating with quality & engineering teams, and preparing everything needed for smooth handoffs to full production. Your role is hands-on, leadership oriented, and essential for preventing defects, delays, and waste.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise the pre-production shift, including operators, technicians, and sample run teams.
Ensure prototypes and pilot runs meet specified quality, design, functionality, and safety standards.
Monitor pre-production planning: materials, tooling, equipment readiness.
Coordinate with engineering / quality / R&D teams for sample feedback, corrections, and iterations.
Enforce safety and environmental regulations in the pre-production area.
Maintain pre-production metrics: yield, sample rejection rates, first pass yield, etc.
Conduct shift hand-overs; ensure smooth transitions.
Mentor and train staff; ensure operators understand their tasks, quality expectations, and process standards.
Contribute to process improvement: suggest optimizations in setup, tooling, sampling workflows, and reduce bottlenecks.
Required Qualifications & Skills
5-10 years’ experience in manufacturing / pre-production or process operations, with supervisory or shift leadership experience.
Strong understanding of prototyping / pilot / sample processes, tooling, fixtures, QA feedback cycles.
Good leadership and communication skills; ability to manage, motivate, and support team.
Knowledge of quality tools (e.g. first-pass yield, SPC, root cause analysis) and ability to apply them.
Focused on safety, compliance, and maintaining good housekeeping in shop floor / pre-production.
Technical competence to understand drawings, process flows, equipment setup.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines; problem solving mindset.
