Job Responsibilities:

• Monitor and maintain library resources, including books, periodicals, audio-visual materials, and computers.
• Register library patrons and issue library cards.
• Assist patrons in locating desired materials and provide information about the library’s services and resources.
• Catalog new materials and enter data into the computer system to keep records of all materials in circulation.
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of library policies, procedures, and resources in order to better assist patrons.
• Process interlibrary loan requests from other libraries as necessary.
• Provide instruction on the use of the library catalog, databases, indexes, Internet resources, and other reference sources to patrons of all ages.
• Train volunteers to assist with library functions such as shelving books or assisting with programs for children or adults.
• Sort incoming materials according to subject area or type of material; check for damage or missing pieces; update catalog records; shelve materials in designated areas; maintain stacks in neat order as needed; repair damaged books by mending torn pages or replacing missing covers; rotate stock on shelves as needed; discard outdated materials according to established guidelines; store archival items properly for preservation purposes; keep statistics on circulation activities such as number of titles checked out each day or week and total number of items added to the collection during a certain period of time; compile reports from computer systems regarding circulation activities;
• Assist with special projects such as a book sale or fund raising event by helping with publicity efforts or staffing the event itself when needed
