The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) is the government body that is responsible for managing natural disasters and other emergency situations in the region. It works with local governments and civil society to develop disaster management plans, coordinate response efforts, and provide relief to affected communities. The SDMA also serves as the coordinating agency for all disaster relief and rehabilitation activities in AJK. Its goal is to reduce the impact of disasters on the population and ensure that their rights are respected during recovery efforts. The SDMA has established a comprehensive legal and institutional framework to improve disaster preparedness, response, mitigation, and recovery capacities in AJK. It also offers training courses to increase awareness on disaster management topics such as risk assessment, early warning systems, evacuation planning, search & rescue operations, relief distribution management and post-disaster recovery.
