OQ SAOC
Job Overview
OQ’s technology backbone runs on SAP, and this role exists to make sure that backbone stays secure, scalable, and built the right way from the start. Reporting to the Manager SAP Technical, the Expert SAP Technical acts as the go-to authority on SAP architecture and design assurance — reviewing how solutions are built before they go live, rather than building them directly. It’s a role built for someone who can sit across SAP Basis, Integration, Security/GRC, ABAP, and delivery teams and keep every SAP decision aligned with clean-core principles and OQ’s broader architecture standards.
Core Responsibilities
System Architecture
- Provide expert design assurance across SAP S/4HANA landscapes, covering scalability, resilience, performance, and clean-core alignment
- Work alongside SAP Basis, Integration, Security/GRC, ABAP, infrastructure, and managed-service teams to keep architecture decisions aligned with OQ’s SAP operating model
- Review technical designs before they’re built, routing recommendations through the Manager SAP Technical for formal approval
Application Design
- Assess SAP solution designs against approved standards, extensibility patterns, interface requirements, and security-by-design principles before implementation
- Advise delivery, Basis, Integration, Security/GRC, ABAP, and business teams on whether proposed changes are technically feasible and supportable long-term
- Flag technical risk in application changes early — integration impact, compliance, performance, and operational supportability included
Development Oversight
- Provide design assurance for ABAP, Fiori/UI5, and integration development without owning execution of that development directly
- Check custom builds against clean-core principles, coding standards, upgrade impact, and long-term supportability
Integration & Interfaces
- Weigh in on integration and interface requirements at an architecture level, checking alignment with SAP standards and security expectations
- Review integration designs for risk around data flow, monitoring, resilience, and performance
- Support clearer interface documentation and error-handling standards across integration touchpoints, working alongside — not replacing — the SAP Integration Expert
Upgrades & Migrations
- Provide governance input across SAP upgrades and platform transitions, from early planning through post-go-live stabilization
- Review upgrade/migration impact on OQ-owned dependencies, interfaces, security, and business continuity
- Coordinate technical risk tracking with Basis, managed-service providers, delivery, and business stakeholders
Performance
- Spot performance bottlenecks by reviewing system metrics, workload trends, and interface behavior
- Coordinate improvement actions with Basis, infrastructure, integration, ABAP, and vendor teams
- Review performance testing results to validate scalability and reliability under real workloads
Security & Compliance
- Review security-by-design requirements during architecture and technical design reviews, working with Security/GRC and related teams
- Provide technical input on access governance, segregation of duties, logging, monitoring, and vulnerability remediation
- Support audit and compliance activities through technical clarification and evidence review — without taking over control ownership
- Recommend improvements to SAP technical governance, standards, and documentation in line with OQ policy and the SAP RISE model
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in IT or a related discipline (Master’s degree an advantage)
- Excellent written, read, and spoken English
- 8–10+ years in SAP technical architecture or senior SAP technical roles, with real exposure to design review and cross-team advisory work
- Hands-on background across SAP system architecture, integration review, and clean-core design assurance
- Exposure to enterprise systems integrated with SAP — lab, environmental, or operational systems are a plus
- Oil & Gas, Energy, or Utilities sector experience is preferred
- Working knowledge of SAP S/4HANA, BW/BI, SAP GRC, Solution Manager, SAP BTP/CPI, SAP Cloud Connector, and the SAP RISE operating model
- Ability to assess technical requirements without stepping into functional design, ABAP development, Basis operations, or Security/GRC administration
- Strong stakeholder influence without formal reporting authority, sharp analytical instincts, and the ability to explain technical topics clearly to both engineers and executives
Compensation
- 1,500 OMR per month
Growth Path
This is a senior technical advisory role sitting close to OQ’s enterprise architecture decisions — strong performers here are well positioned to move into broader SAP architecture leadership or enterprise technology governance roles across the group over time.
Perks & Benefits
- Medical insurance coverage
- Annual paid leave
- Air ticket / travel allowance
- Housing or accommodation support
