Job Responsibilities:

• Prepare patients for dental treatment by making them comfortable in the dental chair, providing them with protective glasses and other equipment, and preparing the instruments and materials needed for the dental procedure.
• Take x-rays of teeth, including intraoral and extraoral images.
• Assist the dentist during various procedures by handing him/her instruments and materials, suctioning, holding retractors and other necessary items.
• Prepare dental materials such as amalgam, composite, impression material and cements for use by the dentist.
• Sterilize dental instruments using autoclaves or other methods.
• Record patient information in the electronic health records system (EHR).
• Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques to maintain good oral health between visits to the dentist.
• Schedule appointments with patients or refer them to specialists as needed due to their condition or treatment plan prescribed by the dentist.
• Provide postoperative instructions prescribed by the dentist such as ice packs or medications following a dental procedure or surgery
• Stock supplies in treatment rooms as needed for adequate patient care
