What Ma’aden does

Ma’aden is Saudi Arabia’s major mining and metals company and describes itself as the largest multi-commodity mining and metals company in the Middle East. The company was established in 1997 to develop Saudi Arabia’s mineral resources and has grown into a diversified mining business covering exploration, gold and base metals, phosphate, industrial minerals and aluminium.

Its operations include mining and processing resources such as gold, copper, phosphate, bauxite/aluminium and industrial minerals. Ma’aden operates mines and industrial sites across Saudi Arabia and exports its products internationally. The company says it operates 17 mines and sites and has more than 7,000 direct employees.

  • Ras Al Khair Industrial City — major aluminium and phosphate processing operations.
  • Wa’ad Al Shamal Industrial City — phosphate mining and processing.

Company history

Ma’aden was established by Royal Decree No. M/17 on 23 March 1997 as a Saudi joint stock company with the purpose of developing and exploiting Saudi Arabia’s mineral resources. It later became publicly listed on the Saudi Stock Exchange, with its listing taking place on 28 July 2008.
