Qatar Fabrication Company

Overview

Every offshore fabrication contract Qatar Fabrication Company wins starts with a number — and getting that number right is what this role is built around. Working out of the Ras Laffan yard and reporting to the Operations Engineering Manager, the Fabrication Estimation Engineer takes tender documents for large-scale Oil & Gas projects and turns them into costed, defensible bids covering everything from jacket structures to topsides and bridge modules.

Responsibilities

  • Study customer tender packages closely to understand the scope of work, technical specifications, and project timeline, raising clarification requests wherever the documentation leaves gaps
  • Break down contract pricing structures, distinguishing unit-rate items from lump-sum components
  • Convert the operations engineer’s bid strategy into a workable technical execution plan, including build sequencing and construction methodology
  • Pull inputs together from across the yard — Production, Shop Engineering, Yard Superintendents, Planning, Welding Engineering, QA/QC, Construction Support, and Procurement — to build a complete cost picture
  • Flag equipment gaps early and work with Procurement to price anything the yard doesn’t already have
  • Draft RFQs for scope that falls outside in-house capability, then evaluate subcontractor quotes to land on the most competitive option
  • Run quantity take-offs and cost out labor, rental equipment, and materials for each bid
  • Build detailed estimates grounded in standard rate cards, past yard performance data, or first-principle calculation when no precedent exists
  • Bring the estimate together into a final package and defend it through management review until it’s signed off
  • Keep a clean paper trail — documenting the basis of every estimate, plus assumptions and client communications, so the numbers hold up when the project reaches execution
  • Build and maintain a historical estimating database, and track how actual project costs compare to what was originally bid
  • Investigate cost variances between estimates and actuals, and recommend adjustments to future benchmarks based on what’s learned
  • Contribute ideas that sharpen how the estimating function operates over time

Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering, or a comparable qualification
  • A minimum of 5 years working in offshore construction, with hands-on familiarity with jackets, topsides, and bridge structures — including how they’re built and what goes into them
  • Comfortable reading and interpreting engineering drawings
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel, and PDF tools
  • Able to stay productive under tight deadlines, including when scope shifts unexpectedly

Salary

6,000 QAR per month

Career Growth

Estimating sits close to where major project decisions get made, giving this role a natural runway into senior estimation, cost control, or operations engineering positions as track record builds within Qatar Fabrication Company.

Benefits

  • Medical coverage for employee (and dependents, where applicable)
  • Annual paid leave entitlement
  • Yearly flight ticket or travel allowance
  • Company-provided or subsidized housing
  • On-the-job exposure to large-scale offshore project bidding, useful for long-term technical career growth
